Free Motion Fish

I'll have kits and fabric pens set up to try some free motion. Just bring threads and your free motion foot. I also have some stencils that we can print on fabric and just use the free motion stitch to outline. Voila...finished. Bring some fabric that you might like to use later in a quilt, purse, or pieced into a kimono. Silk works best and the higher the thread count on cotton...the better. See the sample below on quilting cotton.
This is how the fish starts out...I was afraid to show you...doesn't look like much.
Bird Stencils

I used wonderful quilting cotton designed by Lonni Rossi which already looked hand painted and printed with metallic silver. I used the bird stencil with green ink and tried metallic silver. I also used the bamboo leaf stencil for the background. Golden yellow rayon thread was used to free motion outline the green bird. Well, you'll see it up close soon! I know you'll do even better. These are great to stencil on sheer fabric too.

Blair's Hampton Purse

Empress Kimono

Remember this jacket from the trunk show? I'll have the pattern for you to sew, if you wish. I'll have some fabric too. We'll have a chance to alter to fit and add some one-of-a-kind touches. Consider piecing different textures, colors, and stencilled fabric.

Ok...wer're here! Watch this page for photos of us working.

              The room rates are:  $94/Standard, $99/Poolside, $106/Deluxe

What will we do:  Eat chocolate, drink iced tea and coffee, laugh, and sew!

Bring:  Your sewing machine if you can (don’t forget the electrical cord and foot
Pedal…you know who!), basic sewing supplies, thread, fabric, ideas, extra
machine needles, tape measure & pattern tracing material (if sewing garments),
supplies as listed on the pattern or book.
Notions if applicable:  water soluble marking pen or chalk pencil, seam ripper (oh,
no!), pin cushion, scissors for paper, stabilizers & fusibles (if needed), tracing
paper if creating appliqués, aspirin, hand sewing needle

Prepare:  If you need help adjusting the pattern, please bring paper, pencil, measuring
tape, and scotch tape. If you need more help with design and placement on a
garment, then consider having all the cutting completed so you can focus on the
techniques. Make sure you have enough fabric. If your designs require a lot of
stitching, it might be a good idea to create them separately and then attach them.

Disclaimer:  We will all be high on chocolate and laughing so much that it is best to
wear comfortable clothing. We are all going to be working on different projects so
we must be patient and use our inside voices. We will periodically take breaks to
stretch and do the hula. I think June will lead us.

This is a Sit & Sew and not a defined class where we all have to work on the same project. If you select one of my patterns or projects from my books, I can “guide” you. These are some of the options:  sew, serge, embroider, embellish
      1.  Create a jacket, vest, or purse from one of my patterns or books:
·         I will demonstrate how to alter my patterns and you can team up to help fit
           each other with my help.
·         I will demonstrate several ways to transfer a design to fabric and then use free
           motion to “paint” with thread.
·         I will demonstrate design placement for jackets and vests as shown in my
           trunk show.
  1. On the first day I will demonstrate surface design techniques on 10” square fabrics that can then be pieced with other fabrics to create award winning wearable art garments, scarves, shrugs, and purses. You’ll be submitting them to Belle Armoire magazine!
·         I will have metallic paints, stencils, crystals, beads, and fabric pens to create a
and embellish dragonflies, fish, flowers, and doodles on fabric.
(Watch for samples on my website)
·         Learn how to work with lustrous silk dupioni, crisp linen, sheer chiffon, and
           gossamer organza.
  1. New products that are coming soon:
·         Applique patterns that can be used on jackets, vests, wall hangings,
scarves, and purses. They include:  Island Fantasy (flamingo, palm trees,
shells, fish, etc.); Asian Flair (Geisha faces, fans, flowers, etc.); Oodles
of Doodles (shapes, curls, etc.) You can use these for large scale appliqué,
          free motion, and silk painting.
·         Embroider designs that can be combined with large scale appliqué for
          garments and quilts.
·         Patterns will be available for the metal purse frames of all shapes and sizes.
I will bring my “crimper” which crimps certain purse frames and eliminates
          the hand sewing.
·        If you have been waiting to use your serger (or learn about serging) this is for
you. If you saw my trunk show then you know you can create the Long Swing
Vest on the serger and use the rolled hem for the seams and edges! Or use the
rolled hem to create a contemporary kimono, silken scarf, pareo, elegant
dinner napkins, and custom fiber fringe.
·         If you are confident with your skill level, feel free to work on several projects.
Let me help you with design placement and color combinations to get started.
     4.   Watch my website for updates. I will be able to provide sewing machines and
there will be a few sergers for your use.

I will bring these items for sale:  cotton quilting fabrics, batiks, silk fabrics, metal purse frames, crystals, beads, books, snap hooks and rings, magnetic snaps, purse feet, patterns, velvet, slinky knits, feathers, bead fringe, threads, purse kits, mesh fabrics, jewelry, Fasturn®, bamboo buttons, Raku buttons, glass fired buttons, ribbon, leather, bamboo rings, tassels, leather purse handles, resin and rope purse handles, faux fur, cheetah suede (real leather but not real cheetah), lace, charms, and more.
