Corset for Belle Armoire magazine

This is one of the creative projects in my new book, “Altered Style”. I guide you through the process of techniques used to journal on garments. Garment journals are a “work in progress”. Start with the collar and add a design. When you find the perfect charm…add it to your Artwear Journal! You will be amazed how all the motifs, charms, and techniques come together to express YOU. Notice: the Pagoda pin on the collar, the circle cutout on the shoulder, the red beads that lead to the cutout, the framed bamboo, the raw edge applique of crane and flowers. On the back: the embellished Geisha writing in her journal, brass fan charm, and three pieces of vintage Kimono.

The reason to exist…Truth! Wear your message of creativity. This denim noir jacket came together quickly. It started with a silver foiled “Truth” on the back. Lace and meandering stitching added drama and it was finished with curls drawn with a permanent marker. Add Swarovski crystals to put light on the message. Sometimes an artwear journal focuses on a moment in time. After watching all the politics of our Nation . . . we need to: Say what you mean! Mean what you say! Wear it on your sleeve!

This wrap around Obi (belt) was created by piecing vintage Kimono fabrics together. Free motion was used to quilt and enhance the hand painted silks. Gold thread and beads added elegance to this piece de resistance. Black cording with ancient Chinese coins were wrapped around the back and tied in the front.
